I get calls from Google all the time!

This is what I hear constantly from business owners. It is unfortunate, but you are in lists that are in the hands of marketing companies everywhere because of your business name, phone number, city as well as occupation or business type. Google is not calling you, they do not have the people in place to be calling everyone everywhere, and it is businesses that are trying to scare you into believing that you need them to “fix” how you show up on Google.

Showing up on the first page of Google is important, and there are 3 ways that you have a chance of being there.

The map section of Google is one place that you can, but there is no control over this. There are three spaces (a “snack pack” is what it was named when it changed from 7 spaces about 3+ years ago) This is connected to your business place page, that you can develop with company logo, web links, hours, pictures, videos and more.

The next way is organic positioning, based on how well your SEO is done and how many websites are competing to be on page one of Google. Google algorithms are always updating, so you do need to keep  up on your website content, and it is not unheard of to need a revamp every 18 months or so. Long gone are the days where it did not matter what you had on your website for content. It is critical that your text is written to match peoples’ searches, so that it has a chance of showing up on page one.

The last option is paid positioning with Search Engine marketing. This can land you in one of four positions at the top of the page or three at the bottom.

The more times you show up on a page, the more chance you have of being considered an expert in your field! If potential clients see you over and over again, they are going to think, maybe I should check this guy out, he keeps on appearing in my searches.

So the calls you get from “Google” are most likely going to be based around one of these three things. How you show up on page one of a Google search.
